On March 16^th , China University of Petroleum -Beijing held the 200-day Countdown Ceremony for the 70^th Anniversary in the Faculty Activity Center, which was attended by university leaders, and representatives of various departments, colleges ( research institute ), teachers,students and alumni.

Chen Feng, Chancellor of CUP, read out the Announcement on the 70^th Anniversary of CUP (No. 2) at the ceremony. He pointed out that as the first petroleum institution of higher learning in New China, CUP has always insisted on taking root in China and running university, and been determined to be first-class and pursue excellence since its founding 70 years ago. The 70^th  anniversary celebration is an important milestone of the new journey of CUP in the new era. CUP will take “work hard for 70 years and move forward with determination” as the theme of the 70^th  anniversary celebration. By holding an academic, open, cultural and warm celebration for the 70^th  anniversary, CUP will precipitate the history of school running, show its achievements, promote cultural inheritance and innovation, gather school-running strength, unite teachers and students, make great strides towards the grand goal of becoming a world-class research university with distinctive characteristics in the field of energy, and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Chen Jinzhong, winner of the May Day Labor Medal of the central and state organs, delivered a speech as an alumni representative. He reported his growth experience to his alma mater, expressed his gratitude to his alma mater for its careful cultivation, and extended sincere blessings to the 70th anniversary of his alma mater on behalf of the alumni. Vice President Zhang Guangqing presented Chen Jinzhong with a commemorative certificate.

Andrew, the founder of Uganda Alumni Association, gave an online speech as an alumni representative of international students. He stated that he was greatly encouraged by the spirit of oil and iron man  during his ten years of study at CUP. And he hoped to further promote China-Uganda friendship and help realize Uganda’s oil dream through his own efforts.

At the ceremony, Chen Feng, together with representatives of teachers and students and alumni, started the 200-day countdown to the 70^th anniversary. Wen Yonghong, Vice Chancellor and Vice President Liu Zhichang released the 70^th  Anniversary logo.

The logo takes the number “70” and the school emblem as the main body, and the overall design presents the form of Chinese character “石”, supplemented by the Chinese and English name and school running history, highlighting CUP’s characteristics and the theme of the 70th anniversary.

The number “7” is composed of two groups of silks, symbolizing the Belt and Road initiative and school running in two places. The number “0” is like an oil drop surrounded by the school emblem, symbolizing the discipline and specialty layout with distinctive energy characteristics, as well as the development course and cultural genes born of and thriving on oil.

The logo adopts red and yellow gradient tone, which is three-dimensional and vivid, rendering the grand, warm, festive and joyful atmosphere of the 70th anniversary celebration, and at the same time conveying CUP’s pursuit of deepening the energy field and contributing “light” and “heat” to the national construction and development.
