Recently, Ministry of Science and Technology announced the project results of "Strategic Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation" sub-class of the National Key R&D Program. The Project “Carbon Dioxide Enhanced Oil and Gas Recovery and Geological Storage” organized by Prof. Rui Zhenhua was approved, which is the first "Strategic Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation" sub-class of the National Key R&D Program undertaken by the university.
The project aims to meet the major needs of national energy security and "dual carbon" goals in the new era, and the overall objective is to construct and demonstrate the key technology system of CO2 injection in low-permeability and ultra-low-permeability reservoirs to enhance recovery and storage. The project will focus on three key scientific issues, namely, phase change law and multi-scale convective diffusion mechanism of CO2 multiphase system, dynamic coupling mechanism of CO2 recovery enhancement and storage, and transport and evolution law and storage safety mechanism of CO2 under multi-field coupling. The project intends to build a method for CO2 recovery enhancement and storage integration and CO2 flow control in reservoirs, to develop CO2 leakage risk identification and control technology and a specification for CO2 recovery enhancement and geological storage evaluation to guide field practice, to realize industrial application, and to provide theoretical and technical support to ensure national oil and gas security and achieve the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
