Chen Feng, Chancellor of CUP, led a delegation to visit Azerbaijan and United Arab Emirates from April 2 to 9. During the period, the delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Azerbaijan, Baku Higher Oil School, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, Khalifa University of United Arab Emirates, International Renewable Energy Agency, CNPC International Abu Dhabi Branch, CNPC International Middle East Branch, and CNPC Engineering Construction Middle East Branch. Heads of the International Office, the College of Geosciences and the College of International Education served as accompanied the visit.
At the Chinese Embassy in Azerbaijan, Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Guo Min received the delegation led by Chen Feng. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on educational cooperation, cultural exchanges and university-enterprise joint training between CUPand local universities in the oil and gas field. Chen Feng introduced the cooperation and exchanges between CUP and universities in the oil and gas field in Azerbaijan, and stated that he would take this visit as an opportunity to further improve the cooperation mechanism, innovate the cooperation mode and expand the cooperation fields with counterpart universities in Azerbaijan, and continuously deepen the new achievements of inter-school exchanges and university-enterprise cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road initiative.
At Baku Higher Oil School, the delegation met with President ELMAR GASIMOV. The two sides reviewed the cooperation between the two universities, especially the achievements in exchange students and discipline competitions. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges and reached a consensus on cooperation around the construction of the World Energy University Network, summer camp projects for students, exchange of teachers, discipline competitions, and university-enterprise cooperation. Subsequently, the delegation had an in-depth discussion on the details of cooperation with the relevant functional departments and college heads.
At Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, the delegation led by Chen Feng met with President Mustafa Babanli, and Vice Presidents Qasim Mammadov, Rafig Camalov, Sayami Huseynov and Yasar Hasanov. The two sides had full exchanges on strengthening the cooperation of the Worldwide Energy University Network, jointly promoting the international development of the two universities, and strengthening cooperation in the fields of high-level and professional talent cultivation and academic exchanges.
During their stay in Azerbaijan, the delegation led by Chen Feng also paid a special visit to State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and met with Vice President Khalik Mammadov. Chen Feng introduced the construction of the Worldwide Energy University Network and the university-enterprise cooperation and interschool cooperation, and expressed his wish to cooperate with SOCAR in talent cultivation and scientific research.
At Khalifa University of the United Arab Emirates, the delegation met with President Sir.John O ’ Reilly, Vice President John Rock, and heads of relevant departments. Chen Feng reviewed the cooperation between the two universities. The two sides conducted in-depth discussion and reached consensus on expanding teacher-student exchanges, holding summer/winter camps, jointly conducting scientific research, and jointly constructing the WorldEnergy University Network. After the meeting, the delegation led by Chen Feng visited the research laboratory of Khalifa University and visited the alumni of the CUP under exchange study at Khalifa University.
At the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the delegation met with Feng Jinlei, an official of policy consultation project, and Samah Elsayed, an official of education project. Various sides discussed the possibilities for cooperation in the field of renewable energy, particularly in the field of renewable energy education.
During their stay in UAE, the delegation also visited CNPC International Abu Dhabi Branch, CNPC International Middle East Branch and CNPC Engineering Construction Middle East Branch. Jiang Mingjun, General Manager of CNPC International Abu Dhabi Branch, Li Zhiliang, Deputy General Manager of CNPC International Middle East Branch, and Zhang Yousen, Executive Director of CNPC Engineering Construction Middle East Branch, met with the delegation led by Chen Feng respectively. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges and reached a number of consensuses on topics such as local oil and gas industry development, enterprise development needs, localized talent education, skill training and scientific research project cooperation.
The delegation led by Chen Feng also visited alumni who worked, studied and lived in UAE, and invited them back to the CUP to participate in a series of activities to celebrate the 70th Anniversary.
