Breaking new ground in global educational collaboration, the China University of Petroleum (Beijing) (CUP) has partnered with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) to establish China's first overseas College of Eminent Engineers.
On November 25th, a signing ceremony was held at the president's building of UFRJ in Brazil, witnessed by Huai Jinpeng, China’s Minister of Education, and lBlasir, Brazil’s Deputy Minister of Education. Jin Yan, President of CUP, and Medronio, President of UFRJ, signed a memorandum of understanding(MoU) to mark this historic collaboration.
This milestone coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. During a state visit to Brazil on November 20th, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized strengthening cultural, educational, and youth exchanges, alongside deepening cooperation in areas such as science and technology, and energy.
The joint establishment of the China-Brazil College of Eminent Engineers represents a significant step toward enhancing educational and technological cooperation between the two nations. Its mission is to cultivate innovative talent in engineering and science, with a focus on addressing shared challenges such as ocean engineering, deep-water oil and gas resource development, carbon emissions reduction, and the green energy transition.
By aligning with major engineering projects, the College will foster interdisciplinary collaboration between Chinese and Brazilian enterprises and universities. It aims to create a robust platform for talent development, scientific research, and cultural exchange, contributing to technological advancements and sustainable development in both nations.
This partnership underscores CUP’s commitment to advancing educational openness and building a more just and sustainable world through international collaboration.
