1.3.1 New concept of continuing education
The new concept can be expressed as: mutual integration, mutual learning and win-win development. In the process of training, foreign and Chinese employees contacts and communicates with each other and could reach an understanding of cultural differences. The staff are willing to learn and improve each other’s ability and devote themselves to the cooperation. Specifically, the training enables foreign employees to communicate with Chinese oil and gas companies, identify with the culture, and improve their skills at the same time.
1.3.2 New initiatives of continuing education
“Contact” to bridge gaps and build trust. Take the proactive “Contact” as an entry point to improve the continuing education of foreign employees. When foreign employees come to China, they are generally wary, and some of them even have misunderstanding and prejudice against China. The main measures to solve this problem include: matching teachers to the class in each session to contact the trainees and solve related problems; arranging visits to oil fields to let the trainees understand the situation of China’s petroleum industry; and arranging visits to developed regions to let the trainees feel the development and changes in China.
“Communication” to enhance mutual understanding. Discussion and communication are important means of exchanging ideas and fostering friendships. To ensure effective communication, we encourage interaction in classroom and strive to explore teaching methods. The main measures are: to strengthen the teachers’ foreign language ability and communication skills; to require teachers to participate in class activities, to understand what the students think; to arrange for company leaders to come to the training course to communicate with the students, so that the students can feel the warmth of the enterprise; to arrange for the school management personnel to talk with the students, solving the difficulties in their lives.
Carry forward the traditional splendid “culture”. The course inherits and carries forward the excellent Chinese culture, which is an important means and link to improve the continuing education of overseas staff. By integrating the profound Chinese culture into the courses, the foreign employees can further deepen their knowledge and affection for Chinese culture from interest, understanding, comprehension, recognition to love. The main measures include: arranging courses to explain Chinese philosophy and the Middle Way; and setting up courses to explain the road of development of China’s oil and gas industry and the culture of petroleum enterprises.
Teach foreign employees knowledge and skills, and strive to improve the competitive “Capability” of overseas enterprises. We continue to update the concept of continuing education and build a training model for overseas employees by teaching students knowledge and skills in our programs. Specialized teaching materials and courses are prepared to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge, and visits to internship bases allow students to link theory with practice. Enhancing the competitiveness of oil companies is the key to continuing education.
Trust each other and sincerely “cooperate” to achieve win-win development. The continuing training provides a large number of high-quality oil and gas industry employees for the partner countries. At the same time, the training enables employees to understand China’s peaceful development strategy and see the sincerity of Chinese people. After returning home, they have become the media to introduce China, and their identification with China is turning into a huge development momentum.
