1. Educational Objectives
Doctoral Degree:The doctorate authorization first-level discipline is made up of five research fields, namely, corrosion behaviors of the materials used in petroleum and petrochemical equipments, high-technology polymers and their applications in the oil and gas industries, regulation and physical property of low-dimensional material, regulation and physicochemical property of new energy functional material, and multi-functional and intelligent material. There are more than 15doctoral candidates enrolled every year aiming at high-quality doctoral degree education stressing on strong basic knowledge and innovative ability in the field of materials science and engineering.They are appointed to provide the satisfactory solutions to the worldwide problems in the field of petroleum pipeline corrosion and energy crisis. The candidate students to obtain Ph.D. degree should grasp broad material basis of theoretical knowledge and experiment skills. They should in-depth and systematically master a particular system of material research expertise, theory and research methods and understand their current situation and development trend. They should havegood scientific literacy and the ability to independently do research works.Moreover, some basic academic skills, such as proficient English, strong computer skills and adept modern instruments operation skills are also needed.

Doctoral Courses: Electron Microscopy; Crystal Defect Theory;Electrochemical Frontiers;Frontiers of Physics and Chemistry of Polymer;Metal Strength and Fracture;Nano Materials and Nano Structure;Materials Chemistry.
3. Criteria and Degree Requirements for Graduation (College/ Institute Request for Chinese Students)
The doctoral candidates in MSE department should get some innovative achievements or results before their graduation. The novelty of the achievements can be reflected in the results of innovative doctoral dissertation exploring valuablenew energy materials, a new method of material chemical experiments or some creative solutions to the key problems of metal corrosion researches. The original findings and results should publish papers in SCI, EI and other internationally renowned journals. High standard graduation and degree requirements, including publish three high-level articlesand fulfill a task of an international conference,were equally performed on every Ph.D.candidate in MSE department.
4. Career prospects
With the steadily growing of material industry in China, such as oil refining, oil transportation security, electrical functional materials, novel energy materials, and functional nano-materials, the employment rate of the Ph.D. graduates from our department has always been kept at nearly 100%.On the average, more than 60% of the master degree graduates are enrolled for further study domestically or abroad. And the othergraduates begin their career in universities or high-tech companies which focus on metallic corrosion, petroleum refining or new energy materials, such as SINOPEC, SNPC, etc.
