The master’s degree generally requires a minimum of one academic year of study and two years of research. Master degree requirements include completion of an acceptable dissertation prepared in residence at CUPB.
Geological Resources and Geological Engineering (MSc.)
Objectives

Graduation & Degree Requirements
The minimum credits for Master degree of Geological Resources and Geological Engineering is 30, of which 17 credits for degree courses and the rest for non-degree courses.
Career Prospects
Graduates majoring in Geological Engineering are highly recruited in the energy industry in China, and many graduating students are placed in full-time positions or choose to continue onto graduate school.
Along with their degree work, a vast majority of students participate in the various opportunities through the various oil companies across the country. Most of them work with internship for around or more than one year in the oil companies (future employers).
Graduates gain the skills needed to work in a variety of large corporations and government agencies. Students find jobs as Geological engineers in industry include positions in mineral exploration companies, petroleum exploration and production companies, petroleum service companies, engineering consulting firms, water resource and environmental firms and paleontology resource management and mitigation firms. Basically, the college has very high job placement rating, and graduates receive among the highest starting salaries in China.

Objectives
This program aims to train students to master the basic principles of Marxism, to set up correct view of life, to adhere to Party’s basic line, to love motherland and the petroleum industry. Besides, students are supposed to be law-abiding, mentally and physically healthy, virtuous, serious and pragmatic about science. In addition, students in this program will be fostered to have good team and dedication spirit, to serve socialistic construction.
In terms of professional skills, students should master basic theories and systematic special knowledge of oil and gas field engineering, and to understand the development trend of this discipline and related ones. The ability of academic innovation, pioneering and practice high-level scientific research independently and good comprehensive quality will ensure students’ innovative achievement in science and engineering. Through the fostering time, this program aims to train professional personnel with comprehensive scientific research ability to do research and solve professional problems in this field. In order to doing so, the fostering time will witness students gain the ability to practice scientific research independently, especially do further exploration in the theory and technology of oil and gas field development engineering, as well as read and write professional papers in foreign language frequently.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (MEng.)
Objectives
To train comprehensive high-level engineer and engineering manager who can do scientific research, technological development, engineering design and construction, project planning and management, for the fields of oil and gas well engineering, oil and gas field development engineering, oil and gas storage and transportation engineering.
Students are supposed to master the theoretical basis, advanced technology and modern technique in this field, and furthermore, to establish the ability to practice engineering design and conduct, analyze and integrate, research and explore, manage and decide in on specialty. Besides, the capacity of using foreign language and computer skillfully is a must. in addition, outstanding professionals would dynamically pay attention to the technology situation and development trend, in order to strengthen the engineering practice ability and innovation ability.

Objectives
This program aims to help students to apply professional knowledge to solve chemical engineering practical problems and have capacity to develop chemical engineering technology and manage projects independently. The students are expected to have international perspective, creativity and independence. They are also required to have the ability of mastering a foreign language and knowing well about the trends and status of chemical engineering.

Admission Requirements:
Graduation & Degree Requirements
Master’s candidates are expected to complete 32 credits of approved graduate-level course work, including required 21 compulsory credits and an acceptable dissertation. In consultation with a faculty adviser, M.S. students select a program of 32 points of credits of graduate courses appropriate to their career goals and incorporating core requirements.
The core program includes compulsory courses, 3 public elementary courses, and at least one graduate-level mathematics course. Students whose backgrounds are not chemical engineering are required to take prerequisite chemical engineering courses including Chemical Reaction Engineering, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics and Principles of Chemical Engineering.
Candidates must complete literature review and master-degree proposal before December in the third semester. The time between proposal and defense must be more than 12 months.
Career Prospect
Most of graduates find jobs in oil and petrochemical companies such as CNPC, Sinopec, CNOOC and SINOCHEM or work as researchers, designers and managers in research institutions. And some graduates enroll in Doctor’s programs in Chemical Engineering.
Chemical Engineering (MEng.)
Objectives
This program aims to cultivate engineering, management and skilled talents on chemical engineering filed. According to the characters of chemical engineering companies, Chemical Engineering field covers Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Bio-chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry and Industrial Catalysis. And according to the job specification of engineering technicians, Chemical Engineering filed covers Product Development, Process Development, Equipment Intensification, Technological Transformation, Quality Test, Analytical Test, Environment Protection, and Business Management.
Students are expected to acquire stable and broad basic theory and systemic and deep professional knowledge on chemical engineering. They are also required to have capacity of mastering a foreign language, independently managing projects of chemistry, chemical engineering design, and engineering research and development.

The core program includes at least 3 compulsory courses, 3 public elementary courses, at least one graduate-level mathematic course, selective courses, company internship report and 2 experimental courses. Students whose backgrounds are not chemical engineering are required to take prerequisite chemical engineering courses including Chemical Reaction Engineering, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics and Principles of Chemical Engineering.
