At 22:00, December 11, Beijing time, the International Multiphase Flow Technology Forum (IMFTF) held an online committee meeting through Zoom platform. This meeting is the second online meeting since the establishment of IMFTF. The meeting was attended by ten committee members from six countries and regions around the world.
The meeting was hosted by IMFTF Committee Member Raffaella Ocone, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Professor of chemical engineering at Heriot-Watt University. She introduced that the purpose of this meeting was to welcome four new members of IMFTF Committee and invite two of them to give academic presentations, which aimed at getting familiar with each other and establishing academic connections as soon as possible.
IMFTF Committee warmly welcomed the new members
One of the new members of IMFTF Committee, Professor Cem Sarica, from the Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Tulsa, USA, gave a presentation “Industry Supported Flow Assurance Research Activities at the University of Tulsa”. He began with his brief self-introduction, and introduced the academic activities of his research group TUFFP. Currently, TUFFP's research projects cover various topics, including upscaling studies, oil viscosity effects on two-phase flow behavior, methodology for closure relationship selection, two-phase flow induced vibration in pipes and fittings, impact of multiphase flow on internal corrosion of large pipelines, and so on. Specifically, he showed two example projects from TUFFP: high viscosity oil and air two-phase flow, and upscaling study.
Another new committee member, Professor Jian Su, from Nuclear Engineering Department, COPPE, Federal University of Rio Janeiro, Brazil, gave a presentation “two-Phase Flow and Heat Transfer”. After a self-introduction including educational background and personal experience, he presented his current research topics including Stratified Flow, Plug Flow, Taylor Bubble, Leidenfrost Phenomenon by introducing laboratory instruments, experimental techniques and results and so on.
The presentations of Prof. Cem Sarica and Prof. Jian Su were affirmed by all IMFTF Committee Members
Committee member Professor Yao Jun from the Thermal Engineering Department of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), expressed his gratitude to all the attendees. He said that since its inception, IMFTF had held many offline and online academic conferences and meetings, established the IMFTF website, and actively expanded the committee members. Particularly, the four new members from world-renowned academic institutions reflected the international influence of IMFTF to a certain extent. Besides, IMFTF would hold more academic seminars in the coming future, including inviting two other new committee members to do presentations, and the IMFTF 2021 meeting to be held in Beijing in September next year, in order to improve the influence of IMFTF. With this regard, the future plan of IMFTF and the details of the upcoming meetings were discussed. This meeting lasted for about 1.5 hours.
IMFTF was initiated on January 10, 2020 by China University of Petroleum (Beijing) and was established based on Worldwide Energy University Network (WEUN). Up to now, IMFTF Committee Members come from 13 well-known universities in 7 countries. The forum aims at facilitating the academic exchange and experience sharing worldwide in the field of multiphase flow. Its main objectives are promoting scientific and technical communication as well as fostering collaborations among researchers.
