The "WEUN - Junggar Basin Summer Geological Expedition Camp" is an international geological internship supported by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and organized by the Karamay Campus (CUPK) under the secretary-general unit of WEUN—China University of Petroleum (Beijing). This internship is for international students(undergraduate, master's and doctoral students)and young researchers with a geoscience background. The internship site is located in the Junggar Basin, the second largest continental basin in China, which is located between the Altai Mountains and Tianshan Mountains. The basin is an irregular triangle with abundant and typical geological phenomena. At present, more than 20 classical geological internship routes have been developed even just in the south and northwest margins of the basin, including but not limited to the profiles for lithology identification, stratigraphic identification, and structural features identification.

The host, China University of Petroleum (Beijing) at Karamay Campus, inherits 70 years of profound school-running accumulation. After 8 years of development, it adheres to the school-running orientation of being "Based in Xinjiang, Facing western China, Serving the whole country and radiating Central Asia", the talent training goal of "High-level, Application-oriented and International", based on the development needs of the energy field of Xinjiang and the construction of "Eight Industrial Clusters", it has laid out "Double First-rate" majors and "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" majors. Relying on the counterpart support "19+1" co-construction platform, we have comprehensively promoted the development of talents in short supply in the western region and built a professional cluster of preponderant disciplines. At the same time, the campus has built two branches of State key laboratories and jointly established the Northwest Research Center of the International Cooperation Joint Laboratory of Unconventional Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Education and the Joint Research Institute of Oil and Gas Resources and Engineering with Xinjiang Oilfield. Additionally, the campus has deepened its cooperation with enterprises and integrated education and production, implementing the practical teaching concept of "Four-year continuous line", and established the School of Digital and Intelligent Oil and Gas Industry, leading the establishment of the Xinjiang New Engineering Education Alliance. The campus has also signed cooperation agreements with more than 20 enterprises, including China National Petroleum Corporation Xinjiang Oilfield Branch, China Petrochemical Corporation Northwest Oilfield Branch, and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and established 61 stable and high-quality enterprise engineering practice platforms.
After the registration phase,an interview for the applicants will be organized to select excellent campers to provide full scholarships! With the great support from the China Scholarship Council, the campus will create a wonderful geological fieldtrip feast for students around the world! Here, there is the mysterious devil city witnessing the changes of the landscape, the magnificent Grand Canyon praising the endless power of the earth, and the beautiful forest brimming with vitality. At the same time, advanced laboratories will be open to you, and senior oil field experts will communicate with you face-to-face. We are looking forward to the excellent partners to gather here!
This internship requires international students to have a certain geoscience background, and the language of communication is English, we will provide students with comfortable accommodation, convenient transportation, and careful living security. We welcome students from all over the world to join us to experience the magnificent geological world!
