The College of Geophysics in the China University of Petroleum (Beijing) is composed of the Department of Geophysical Exploration and the Logging Department. In 2010, the College of Geophysics and Information Engineering was established. On November 26, 2018, in order to adapt to the development requirements of colleges and universities under the new situation, we further optimized the discipline layout and accelerated the construction of “double first-class”. The College of Geophysics was formally established.

 The college has a strong faculty and has 61 faculty members, including 24 professors/researchers, 20 associate professors/deputy researchers/senior engineers. The faculty includes 1 national “Thousand Talents” scholar, 2 Distinguished Professors of the “Changjiang Scholars Award Program” of the Ministry of Education, 1 National 973 Chief Scientist, 1 National Outstanding Youth Fund, and “New Century Excellent Talents” from the Ministry of Education. The support plan was selected by 4 people.

The college has one national key (nurturing) discipline of earth exploration and information technology, two first-level disciplines of geological resources and geological engineering, geophysics, and a master's degree program, and a doctoral degree in energy and environmental protection. Geological engineering, engineering management 2 master's degree programs, 1 post-doctoral station for geological resources and geological engineering, and 2 undergraduate majors in exploration technology and engineering, geophysics, including geological resources and geological engineering selected as "double first-class" world The list of first-class disciplines, exploration technology and engineering is a national specialty. All disciplines of the college have formed an excellent tradition. They have been conducting innovative research in the major strategic needs of the country and the frontier areas of the discipline for a long time, and have made brilliant achievements. They have formed important achievements and teams such as seismic exploration and imaging logging, and have undertaken the national key foundation. The National Development Program (973 Program), the National High Technology Research and Development Program (863 Program), the National Oil and Gas Major Project, and the National Natural Science Foundation Key Project have won several national and provincial-level science and technology awards.
