Geophysics
1. subject overview
Geophysics is the theory and method of applied physics. It is combined with geology, atmospheric science, marine science and astronomy to provide various geophysical fields (such as geomagnetic field, geoelectric field, gravity field, etc.) through modern scientific and technological means. Seismic wave field, earth temperature field, radioactive material radiation field inside the earth, high-altitude atmosphere and plasma field, high-altitude electromagnetic field, etc., to study the physical properties, structure, shape and various occurrences of various geophysical fields and the earth. The physical process, the main research object is the earth and its surrounding space. Narrow geophysics is the science of studying the physical properties and physical processes of solid earths, so it is also called solid geophysics or geophysics; in general, geophysics, in addition to studying the solid part of the earth, also studies meteorology, hydrology, and oceanography. , the physical processes of the atmosphere and the ionosphere. In terms of the nature of geology, geophysics includes the study of solid geophysics of solid earths, the study of the dynamics of the solid earth as a whole and its internal dynamic processes, the geodesy of ground shapes, and the ocean physics of oceanography. Study low-altitude meteorology and atmospheric physics, and study space physics in high-altitude and even interplanetary space and the solar atmosphere.
China University of Petroleum (formerly Beijing Petroleum Institute) was approved to establish a master's degree in applied geophysics and a doctoral degree in 1981 and 1985 respectively. In 2006, he established a master's degree in solid earth geophysics, and in 2011 established a master's degree in geophysics.
