Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Petroleum Science Bulletin follows accepted publishing ethics and strongly opposes any form of academic misconduct. Authors, reviewers, and editors of this journal shall abide by the following ethical standards:

1. Publication Ethics for Authors

1) Originality and plagiarism

The authors shall ensure that the submitted work is completely original and not plagiarized and has never been published anywhere else in any language, and all data used in the research work are authentic, not fabricated, or falsified. The work and/or words of others mentioned or referred to in the paper should have been appropriately cited or quoted. Copying or paraphrasing substantial sentences or paragraphs from other papers or claiming research results of others are considered as plagiarism. All forms of plagiarism are unethical and unacceptable.

2) Multiple, redundant, or concurrent publication

It is unethical to simultaneously publish the same manuscript in multiple journals. More than one contribution wastes the time of editors and peer-reviewers and damages the reputation of the journal. Authors shall not publish the same research in more than one publication, and the act of submitting more than one manuscript on the same research is not permitted. Authors shall inform the editor if they wish to withdraw their work from review or choose not to respond to reviewer comments after receiving a conditional acceptance. Authors shall be responsible for all consequences if they submit the same manuscript to more than one journal.

3) Authorship of the paper

Authorship shall be limited to the people who have made substantial contributions to conceiving the ideas or experimental design, and/or participated in the execution of the research, and/or analysis of the data, and/or writing of the manuscript. Each person who has made a significant contribution to the research can be listed as coauthors. People who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author shall be a financial supporter of the scientific research project of the article and shall ensure that all coauthors confirm the final draft and any subsequent versions and agree to publish the same.

4) Acknowledgement of sources

Publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work should always be cited, and authors must give proper acknowledgment of other’s work. Even the authors’ own previously published works must be acknowledged if the copyright was transferred to a publisher or journal. Information obtained privately, such as through conversations, correspondence, and discussions with third parties, must not be used without written permission from the source. The information obtained from confidential services must not be used without explicit written permission of the author of the work involved in these services.

5) Disclosure and conflicts of interest

Authors shall disclose any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscripts. All sources of financial support—whether direct or indirect—for the project, should be disclosed. Examples of potential conflicts of interest include employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registrations, and grants or other funding. Potential conflicts of interest should be disclosed at the earliest.

6) Fundamental errors in published papers

The authors shall immediately notify the editors of Petroleum Science Bulletin when they discover significant errors in their published papers, and are obligated to retract the papers or give a correction notice. If the editor or the publisher learns of the errors from a third party, it is the obligation of the authors to cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

2. Publication Ethics for Reviewers

1) This journal adopts a double-blind peer review system. The reviewer shall review manuscripts scientifically, scrupulously, objectively, and fairly, and make a recommendation to either accept, reject, or modify the manuscript.

2) Reviewers shall report to the editorial board if multiple submissions, misconceptions, intellectual errors, suspected plagiarism, or fabrication is found with respect to a manuscript and point out relevant published work that have not been cited.  

3) Reviewers shall have no conflict of interest with respect to the research, the authors, and/or the research investors.

3. Publication Ethics for Editors

1) All manuscripts are initially evaluated by the editor for originality using appropriate software.

2) The editor can take a decision on an original manuscript based on a double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers.

3) The editor shall promptly register the manuscript, submit the manuscript to reviewers, and edit and publish the manuscript, and ensure every manuscript is handled with fairness.

4) The editor shall ensure that information in and regarding the manuscripts submitted by the authors is kept confidential.

5) The editor shall not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for his/her own research without the written consent of the author.
