From November 11 to 18 2019, Bao Zhidong, Vice-President of China University of Petroleum-Beijing was invited to visit Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Xiamen University Malaysia Campus, University College Sedaya International. During the visit, Bao Zhidong was accompanied by heads of the College of Geosciences, the institute of Unconventional Oil&Gas Science and Technology, and the international office. The CUPB delegation exchanged views with Dr. Sahel N Abduljauwad, Professor Mohamed Ibrahim A Mutalib, Dr. Zhang Yin as well as heads of related departments and representatives of professors. During this meeting, they introduced their universities respectively. Bao Zhidong showed achievements made by CUPB in recent years, including students training, “world-class” disciplines, construction of a research team, international exchanges and cooperation, and especially “World Energy University Network” advocated by CUPB on the 65th anniversary of its birth (2018). He elaborated achievements of WEUN and recent progress in its first year of existence. During visiting, Bao Zhidong and his delegation visited research centers, laboratories, libraries and other hardware facilities of four universities. Having a thorough understanding of the four universities, CUPB signed a jointly cooperative agreement on laboratory with Universiti Teknologi Petronas and a cooperation framework agreement with Xiamen University Malaysia Campus. At the same time, they witnessed the signing of the WEUN constitution by Universiti Teknologi Petronas and Hanoi University of Mining and Geology.
During the visit to Vietnam and Malaysia, Bao Zhidong and his delegation received a warm welcome from CUPB alumni. Among them, some are international students who have returned home to start their own businesses after graduating from CUPB, some are graduate students who have participated in the international training and exchange program, as well as CUPB alumni who have been working abroad for many years. The delegation of CUPB, together with them, shared latest achievements and future plans. Finally, the delegation extended congratulations to alumni on their achievements abroad and encouraged them to work hard for more achievements.
Founded in 1997, Universityi Teknologi Petronas (UTP)is a private university wholly owned by PETRONAS, the national oil and gas company of Malaysia. The campus is ideally located in Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia. UTP offers a wide range of courses related to engineering, science and technology for undergraduates and postgraduates. This University has conducted extensive research and activities in collaboration with PETRONAS, other institutions and various industries, both local and foreign, covering six key areas: petroleum engineering, self-sustainable construction, transport infrastructure, health analysis, hydrocarbon recovery, pollutant management and automated systems. Bao Zhidong and Professor Mohamed Ibrahim A Mutalib, Vice President of Universityi Teknologi Petronas, discussed scientific cooperation, student exchanges, teacher exchanges, short-term lectures and the summer school between two universities. Meanwhile, both sides held in-depth talks on how to conduct joint construction of the platform after becoming first members of WENU. During conversations, Universityi Teknologi Petronas signed a joint cooperative agreement on laboratory. Bao Zhidong invited Mohamed Ibrahim A Mutalib to attend 2020 Global Energy Prize Summit and the WEUN Secretariat Conference, both hosted by CUPB. Mohamed Ibrahim A Mutalib agreed to participate.
Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG), was established in 1966. Since its establishment, more than 50,000 undergraduates or postgraduates have moved from here to society. HUMG has 41bachelor’s degree program, 17 master’s degree programs and 29 doctorate programs including mining, geology, mapping, oil & gas, journal of mechanical & electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, economy and business administration. Dr. Sahel N Abduljauwad, President of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, warmly received Bao Zhidong, discussing exchanges of students, cooperation in R&D projects, and the “2+2 Student Program” between two universities. At the invitation of Mr. Bao, Sahel N Abduljauwad will participate in 2020 Global Energy Prize Summit and the WEUN Secretariat Conference.
Xiamen University Malaysia Campus is the university in Project 985 to build a campus abroad. On October 4, 2013, the President of the PRC Xi Jinping witnessed an agreement being signed with Malaysian government to fully support construction of the campus. The official enrollment is in 2016. The goal is to become a comprehensive university combining teaching and research, covering foundation programms, undergraduate programms, graduate programs. There are currently 5,018 students in schools, including 2,867 from Malaysia, 1,857 from China and 294 students from 26 other countries and regions. Dr. Zhang Ying, Vice President of Xiamen University Malaysia Campus with Bao Zhidong are engaged in joint student training and R&D cooperation in the fields of new energy science and engineering, marine technology, chemical engineering and technology.
University College Sedaya International (UCSI), founded in 1986 by the Ministry of Education of Malaysia, is the only comprehensive and private university in Malaysia that offers a diverse curriculum. About 30% of international students are from 110 countries worldwide. Leaders of International Collaboration Centre, College of Engineering and Department of Chemical Engineering met with Bao Zhidong and his delegation to seek cooperation in student internships, the summer school and short-term programs about student exchanges, while actively promoting cooperation between College of International Education of CUPB and this University.
The delegation had a full discussion about student training, teacher exchanges and cooperation on R&D, and implemented some specific plans, through this visit to Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Xiamen University Malaysia Campus, University College Sedaya International. Moreover, thanks to this opportunity, WEUN will be fully introduced in order to further strengthen student training, academic exchanges and cooperation, and international projects on this platform. This visit has laid a solid foundation for CUPB to expand cooperation among national energy universities in southeast Asian countries.
